Playground Development Plan

The Prospect Bank school building will be 50 years old in 2024, and is set on the site of a previous school.  There is a garden area at the front of the school with mature trees including apple and pear trees. We make good use of the fruit for snack and cooking activities.

There are 2 main playground areas.  The junior school playground is mainly covered with concrete and slabs, and has a small area of astro turf and sunken trampolines.

The upper school playground has a large area of astro turf accessed by a smaller area with slabs and a spinner on a soft surface. This area has a ‘wiggly’ bridge, a climbing frame and a swing.

The junior school playground is in urgent need of a complete refurbishment. Previously there was a wooden trim track across the playground, but this had to be removed on health and safety grounds two years ago.  Since then we have had no fixed equipment in this playground.

Our children need safe, durable, challenging outdoor equipment on which they can play and learn.  They need opportunities to let off steam, to develop their gross motor skills, to develop their communication and friendships.  There are very few of these opportunities for our children outside of school.  Due to the nature of their complex needs, many of our children cannot access public playgrounds as they find them too noisy and too busy; many of them also have no awareness of personal safety.

School is the safe space in which they can play while learning skills for life.

We have commissioned Scotplay, the Council-approved provider, to provide a plan and costings.  The council has been consulted and has given the go ahead to start these improvements in Summer 2025.

This is the proposed plan for Summer 2025.

We are currently fundraising and writing for grants to secure funds so that this work can go ahead. If you are able to contribute or help in any other way please contact the school office.

We are delighted to announce that the Wooden Spoon charity has awarded Prospect Bank a grant of £20,000 towards our playground development project. We have also been awarded £1223 from Tesco Stronger Starts and raised £182 from Asda’s Cashpots for Schools. We are still fundraising for the remaining amount which is around £5000. There are more events planned for the new year. Look out for more information to follow.
